What is hormone replacement therapy (HRT)?

Hormone replacement therapy is a personalized medical treatment that helps restore hormone levels that have declined or become imbalanced over time. HRT is commonly used to support symptoms related to perimenopause, menopause, and hormonal changes associated with aging, stress, or medical conditions.

Who is a good candidate for hormone replacement therapy?

HRT may be appropriate for adults experiencing symptoms such as fatigue, brain fog, mood changes, low libido, sleep disruption, weight changes, hot flashes, night sweats, or decreased overall well-being. A comprehensive evaluation—including symptoms, medical history, and lab testing—is required to determine if HRT is appropriate for you.

Do I need lab work before starting hormone therapy?

Yes. Lab testing is an essential part of safe and effective hormone therapy. Labs allow us to understand your baseline hormone levels and guide dosing decisions. Lab work is also used periodically to monitor your response to treatment and ensure ongoing safety. Lab work is included in your Hormone Consult.

What hormones do you prescribe?

Depending on individual needs, treatment may include testosterone, estradiol, progesterone, or other supportive therapies. Not every patient needs the same hormones, and not every patient needs hormone therapy at all. Treatment plans are always individualized. Check out our Education area for more information on these hormones.

What forms of hormone therapy are available?

Hormones may be prescribed in several forms, including pellets, injections, oral medications, patches, or topical preparations. The best option depends on your symptoms, labs, medical history, and personal preferences. We offer memberships particular to the pellet therapy and the injection therapy. Other forms of therapy can be obtained as part of memberships or with our A la Carte Services.

How long does it take to feel results?

Many patients begin noticing improvements within a few weeks, though it can take 8–12 weeks to experience the full benefits of therapy. Hormone optimization is a process, not a quick fix, and adjustments are sometimes needed over time. These adjustments and careful monitoring are all part of our membership plans.

Is hormone replacement therapy safe?

When appropriately prescribed, monitored, and individualized, hormone therapy can be a safe and effective treatment. We carefully review personal and family medical history, use evidence-based dosing, and monitor labs and symptoms regularly to minimize risk.

Will hormone therapy cause weight gain?

Hormone therapy itself does not typically cause weight gain. In fact, optimizing hormones may support improved metabolism, energy, and body composition. Lifestyle factors such as nutrition, sleep, stress, and movement remain important components of care. Part of our process involves also checking and optimizing your thyroid.

Can hormone therapy help with mood, sleep, or brain fog?

Yes. Hormones play a significant role in mood regulation, sleep quality, cognition, and emotional resilience. Many patients report improvements in sleep, mental clarity, motivation, and overall sense of well-being with appropriate therapy.

Will I need to stay on hormone therapy forever?

Not necessarily. Some patients choose to stay on therapy long-term, while others use it for a specific season of life. We reassess regularly and make shared decisions based on symptoms, labs, and individual goals.

How often will I need follow-up visits?

Follow-up schedules vary based on the type of therapy used and where you are in treatment. Most patients have routine follow-ups every 3–6 months, with lab monitoring as needed. This is where our memberships really shine - you get up to 4 additional visits per year on top of your pellet insertion visits.

Does insurance cover hormone replacement therapy?

Coverage varies widely by insurance plan. Our services are exclusively self-pay, but we can provide you with a Letter of Necessity and itemized receipts to turn in to your insurance. We provide transparent pricing and discuss costs upfront so there are no surprises. However we do not bill hormone therapy replacement services to insurance.

How do I get started?

Getting started begins with scheduling a Hormone Consult. We will set you up to have your labs drawn with our office, and then during your visit, we review your symptoms, medical history, goals, and discuss whether hormone therapy may be appropriate for you. For more information about this process, check our our education page.
